This Website is financed and promoted by Llansteffan Tourism Association. Formed originally in February 1987 for a period of 7 years until it’s demise in 1994, it was resurrected in November 2002 and is still meeting 10 years later. The Association is a collection of local people who are involved in one way or another with the tourist industry. They may be B&Bs or Hotels, self – let apartments, restaurants or retail outlets. We even have some members who have no tangible reason to be involved other than wishing to control the type of tourism we have in the village, and also to minimize any negative impact that the tourist industry could have if not controlled carefully. We wish to see tourism prosper as a benefit to us all, but never to the detriment of the community at large.
Over the years the Association has worked hand in hand with the Community Council and other clubs and village associations to protest to the County Council when we disagreed with something, whilst also making the point of agreeing with campaigns that we supported. In the past we have vigorously opposed the Cockling invasions and have tried to bring pressure on the Authorities to minimize the effect on the community. We are in constant correspondence and discussion with the Council over various issues pertaining to the appearance of the village in the eyes of visitors who come here – sign-age on the Green, proposed Car Parking fees, and dog fouling – all issues which are still ongoing.
On the positive side the Association raised thousands of pounds to pay for the erection of the green Tourist signs on the dual carriage-way. These have been instrumental in diverting many thousands of tourists from carrying on to Pembrokeshire and thus visit us here first! Also the Association, with other partners, has raised funds to pay for the new Information boards visible on the Green and Scott’s path. And as most villagers know, many of our members are usually at the forefront of any number of village money making schemes, whether it be the for Hall Committee, the Sports Association, or the Fiesta. Long may this continue!
We extend a warm welcome to anyone who feels they may have ideas to offer and who wish to participate in an Association which promotes the benefits to be gained from the tourists who come to visit our beautiful village, but also realise that tourism is a double-edged sword. When we travel abroad as tourists, we can see in so many other parts of the world how it can go horribly wrong when nobody is watching! We love to have our village appreciated by visitors because it is such a very special place. But we must also ensure that we attract the right kind of tourism here, and attract like minded people who will admire the simplicity and sincerity of what is available here and will wish to keep it exactly the way it is now and has always been.
The Association greatly acknowledges all those local people who have knowingly (or otherwise!!) contributed pictures to this website. Although most pictures have been taken by members, many have been sourced from entries to the annual Fiesta Calendar competition as well as other local village websites. If you have any objection to the use of your picture please inform us on the contact page.
