As most of you will know – we have managed to buy new lights for the castle at a very good price (a Big Thank you to City Electricals) – and install them all (Thank you to Mr Darren Sainty who found time amongst his Xmas shopping to do all the work required) in time for Xmas!!! And I don’t know if it’s me or what, but they do seem a lot brighter!!!
At the time we put together a couple of collection boxes in the Shop and Pub, and also donated the profits from the Mayor’s Swim on New Year’s Day to help pay for them. And together – quite shockingly in such a small amount of time – we have collected near on £1000!!! To break it down a bit – over £300 from the Mayors Swim, £700 from the collection boxes and some donations. That is nearly half the cost of the lights’ purchase although we have promised to do another £500 worth of work with the required cabling. BUT that money is still quite staggering in such a short space of time. I know some people put in some quite big cheques and cash – I won’t name you of course but you know who you are and we thank you heartily for those contributions as we thank everyone who gave what they could afford to get the lights back up and running – it wouldn’t be Xmas without the lights would it? Well done everyone!!!
Yes, we will still need more donations so if you couldn’t afford to give anything over Xmas please try and give something over the next few months. We will leave both collection boxes in the Shop and Castle pub so feel free to contribute at any time. Or if you live further afield like Carmarthen. Ferrryside (nice view!!), Llansaint, Cydweli, Llanelli or even if you just appreciate the efforts we make to keep the beautiful view of the lit castle, please send cash, cheques, P.Os made out to Llansteffan Tourism Association c/o Bethan Ryder, Llansteffan P O, High St., Llansteffan SA33 5JW. Big or small – they all add up!! Also, to try and keep the maintenance of the lights as totally self sufficient we are going to charge £1 a day for Lights Sponsorhip – £7 a week from 2015. I hope that’s OK with everyone as it’s been only £5 a week for the last 5 or 6 years.
