Dear Michael - No, Scott's House has nothing to do with "the" Capt Scott although it is rumoured that Capt John James Scott who owned it, was a distant relative. He had a wife, one son, and 9 daughters and occupied St Anthony's Cottage from 1862 - the 1950s. The house was named after the Holy Well of St Anthony which is adjacent to the property. The well would have been on the holy pilgrim route to St Davids and Ireland, and many woukld have stopped here to refresh in the healing waters. Overs the years it became a custom for travellers to throw coins and other offerings into the well. This often helped the schoolchildren of Llansteffan eke out their pocket money during the summer months!!

Apart from knowing that most of the lands around Llansteffan have been in the ownership of the Plas Estate for very many years, I personally know very little. I'm sure some members of the history society could enlighten you somewhat, or even a fairl basic trawl on Gppgle! Good luck!

Can anyone help me with this story? I am been told my great-grandfather, Thomas Rees of the Union Hall Hotel, once or maybe several times (?), threw Dylan Thomas out for being drunk and disorderly. Fact or family myth? We have a Welsh Society here in St Albans and I thought I might tell this tale at the dinner on St David's Day!

I lived in Llansteffan in the old mill for 2 years in the early 90's and enjoyed being part of the village. If I had a choice of anywhere to go on a sunny day my choice would be Llansteffan. Does anyone know if Scott's Bay has any connection with Scott of the Antartic ?

Do you have sky in your pub, I am searching the Internet for a pub near to where we are staying that might be showing the
Man city & Swansea football tonight?

I would really apreciate it if you could email me back, as I can't get a signal on my phone to ring anyone.

Many thanks

This magnificent beach must be one of the best in the UK as it sweeps round under the castle to Scotts Bay. I can certainly think of none better in Wales, apart from Pembrey on the east side of the estuary.

I have enjoyed the walks around Llansteffan for 60 years (no wonder I feel tired). I used to live in Carmarthen, now in Sussex, but i am drawn back to this magical part of Wales every autumn. The BBC Carmarthen website shows some of my photos.
