He had a wife, one son, and 9 daughters and occupied St Anthony's Cottage from 1862 - the 1950s. The house was named after the Holy Well of St Anthony which is adjacent to the property. The well would have been on the holy pilgrim route to St Davids and Ireland, and many woukld have stopped here to refresh in the healing waters. Overs the years it became a custom for travellers to throw coins and other offerings into the well. This often helped the schoolchildren of Llansteffan eke out their pocket money during the summer months!!
