Yes – it’s time to dust off that scarecrow you’ve been hiding in the cupboard, search outl those dodgy clothes you used to wear in th 70s/80s/90s for the Carnival parade, and of course rehearse all your complex dance moves and hidden talents ready for stardom in Llansteffan’s Got Talent!!!
Kick off your Fiesta Week with a great day down at Pilglas in the Tywi Boat Club’s OPEN DAY. Starting at about 3 pm after the Duck Race cpme and try your hand at canoeing, rowing, sailing, motor boating or just come down for a burger, a beer, and a brilliant time. There will be various demos from the Ferryside Lifeboat, The Fire Brigade Rescue Team, and Llansteffan’s own Celtic Challenge Rowers. The local Coastguuard will be in attendance and weather permitting, the event will roll on into a late evening of music and revalry.
This year the organisers have gone back to the ever eventful Scarecrow Competition with the emphasis on a Sporty Scarecrow!!! I’m sure there will not be a scarcity of entries after Wales’ (and England’s !!) performances at the Euros, the calamitous rugby losses to England and the All Blacks in rugby, and of course Andy Murray’s second success at Wimbledon.
One of the week’s most riotous evenings will be the Fiesta’s first Saturday night with Mock Mayor Roger Davies, the encumbant over the last few years, defending his crown again this year. I wonder who will challenge this year? What scandals are waiting to reveal themselves on the biggest stage of all (well, the biggest in the village…). Will Brexit affect the proceedings at all? And will leaving our European friends mean a closer relationship with our far flung colony in Patagonia, Argentina? All might be revealed on the night!!!
Don’t forget the Coffe Evening on the Monday of Fiesta week. Great refreshments and the chance for a bargain or two!!!
Following the Carnival we again will have an event that has become one of the highlights of the whole week – Llansteffan’s Got Talent!! Simon Crowell – eat your heart out!!! The X Factor – Factor Off!!! None of those media controlled events are a patch on our ever changing extravaganza!!! Every year this show throws up some remarkable talents and I’m sure this year will be no different!!!
Also, remember the calender competition for all you keen photographers – the competition is fierce but the rewards are world wide fame……well, at least as far as Carmarthen!!!
So get your glad rags out, make a brilliant scarecrow, practice your hidden talents, find that Instamatic or Box Brownie (what are they????), Digi or 35mm SLR, and lets show everyone that this is by far the best showboating village in the whole of West Wales.
